Attendence at Mass is Off....Why?

One word: ridiculous

When I see photos like the above I bust out laughing. Laughter at Holy Mass may not always be a good thing. I love a good Homily joke as well as anyone else but when the entire Mass is a combination of head-scratching and belly laughing, tell me reverance and sanctity has not gone by the wayside and I'll hit you upside the head.

By the way, the photo above is by no means the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen at Mass. I've seen priests dancing around (no, it wasn't a blognic), lay people run amok, 2 miles of deep cleavage on the Lector, kids running up the aisle with the gifts, clowns, puppets, mimes (I'm not kidding) and liturgical dancers (no, sorry, I'll never love it!)

Note: This is a crosstown post reacting to Terry's good post! Why give away my best snark in someone else's combox?

Thanks for the link Cath! I'm often distracted by the Lector's bosom as well - not in a good way either.... no, no.

I think I should've said "canyon of cleavage"

It's all funny, but it's not funny.

A wise traditionalist priest I know once said: "Father could process in on a pogo stick and it could still be Mass!" Yes, but it sure as h-e-doubletoothpicks would not feel like it!

I panic writing this stuff because I feel like I'm giving too many wack jobs ideas.

AA: I know where you can find some!

If y'all only knew what it takes some mornings for me to even approach the altar!! (for all kinds of reasons!)...we should be falling on our faces before the Almighty;
may we find anew the wondrous, magnificent and awesome Presence of our Lord Who is a Crucified God...so vulnerable, so loving and so absolutely available; this should make us cover our faces with awe and holy joy!

Cathy, your ideas are not whacked but the truth.

* I panic with every post or comment I publish and you don't have a blog administrator to um, dare I say "pick apart" the things you write about. (If he ever likes anything I post, I'll let you know.) But he's saved me from myself a few times too to be sure.

Father isn't it cool how God uses screwed up people to do his work but then if he didn't use us who would be left? I think your too hard on yourself , you did after all give up everything to follow Christ and that alone has value.
Every day I think, I'm too screwed up to blog (have kids, etc..) - what am I doing?!
******
BTW My computer has crashed, I'm on a kids crappy computer. Please don't forget about me blogger buddies!!

Cathy--

I do believe that *snark* may be the Holy Spirits way of teaching idiots not to mess up the Liturgy

Snark on, Sister! Snark on!

belinda: Thanks be to Jesus you have had kids, probably a lot of them...I absolutely hate to think what would what happen to this world if the "Obama" types were the only ones populating the earth (suicide might just look appealing...but that's a sin, so I'm not going there:<)!).
I praise the Lord every day (and I mean it) for down-to-earth families who love the Lord and His Church and are yeah, producing some pretty great kids that will take over eventually when us old duffers finally "bite the dust"...(as one instance: my sister and brother-in-law, both converts, raising four children plus one, a niece from another sister who had some problems, who have raised some pretty exemplary kids, if I may say so, myself, after all, I'm their uncle!)
I have no idea what my point was here, but anyway, keep the faith, love the Lord, and be "real" with your kids and spouses...that's it, yeah!
