Keeping the Demons Away

A friend told me tonight he fears a demon is lurking in his house. I've had bizarre episodes in my home at times as well. However, they have largely abated.

My "secret" but it's not a secret: Hit 'em with prayer and blessed sacramentals! They HATE that. I've literally felt them leave as I prayed to St. Michael or started working my Rosary beads.

Even a family member, who is not practicing the Faith right now, has held at bay oppressive and evil spirits when she prayed "really hard".

It is at night that we feel most vulnerable. We are not fully alert. We are minimally dressed. We may not feel completely safe. I have an evening ritual (besides just my evening facial!). It's tried and tested by decades of Catholics before me.

I put a spot of Holy Water on my mattress where I sleep (a drop-not a flood!) and say "Lord, into they hands I commend my spirit" and then I pray the St. Michael prayer.

If something happens during the night I've already asked the Lord for mercy on my soul. I've already asked St. Michael for protection. It just occurred to me that my Angel is already there without asking but I should probably give him a call out too.

There are times that I don't follow this evening ritual; either because I forget or I'm too ashamed of myself to pray much less put blessed water on myself. This is a mistake and I realize that now. I need to ask for mercy at ALL times-not just when things are great and I'm 100% with the Lord. I need to use the sacramentals to avoid falling even deeper into The Pit. I tend to fall even further into serious sin if I don't keep to my before bed ritual.

Ritual-as Catholics that's something we should get behind. Duh! Do you see now another reason why ritual is SO important? I just did when I wrote this post!

Great post. I make sure to invoke my guardian angel and pray to St. Michael each night before I retire as well.

For several months I had doors slam and books fall in the middle of the night. Before I would go to sleep I would make sure everything was secure such as dishes not teetering on the edges of the cabinets and that books were in order etc...

I could go back to sleep when the books would fall or the doors slammed but when the smoke alarms started going off I did as you had suggested but to no avail. Finally when my childs picture of The sacred heart of Jesus crashed at two o'clock in the morning I'd had enough and called my priest..

Me, being me... kind of a fool as I was gently making jokes to father as he blessed my home but father would have none of my nonsense. He was all business. (I've only had a couple of freaky things happen since) It was then that I learned of the power of the priesthood as I had tried to do kinda the same thing that he had done but my efforts were fruitless. So it was then that I understood our Priest do have the power to forgive sins and say Mass. I get it now.

(Even so ,I still liberally use holy water in a spray bottle for the children and blessed salt)

Everything around my house is breaking and I'm wondering if I should have it done again. Is once enough? Does it ever have to be redone? Does every appliance and electrical item breaking at the same time mean nothing? Not sure but fed up just the same.

I have been experiencing strange sounds in the night while I sleep at my home. I am going to try sprinkling Holy Water on my mattress and praying to Saint Michael. Any prayers in particular that I can say to Saint Michael that you can suggest?

The odd occurances we had were in leading up to having our home blessed. Until we actually moved to have our pastor do it, there had been no unusual happenings.

Since then, nothing. Maybe someone would have insight on that.

Sacramentals work well--I have a third-class relic scapular that I wear--and use holy water liberally, and nothing beats blessed salt--I have a bag next to my bed :) And remembering that Satan is very small compared to God--and always asking the evil to depart in the name of Jesus!

My house had many strange occurances--especially in one room??? But over time, using many Sacramentals and having a St. Benedict crucifix in the room--the demons rarely come around any more. But when they do, the holy water sends them packing every time.

The demonic is very, very real...
but not like in the movies or in fiction;
it usually manifests itself in "obsession" (violent compulsions that are seemingly 'outside' of the person); or in individuals around you who normally are quite sane but all of a sudden "have a meltdown" of some kind or other;
the slimy green red-eyed monsters would almost be a consolation to me around here...it's the other unforeseen "ape-shit" (excuse me) explosions that set me hair on edge...Jesus, mercy!
Lots of holy water...prayer to Holy Mary and St. Michael...hold onto your rosaries, kinda thing.
And I believe, I am, in fact, sane:<)!

@Belinda, you should have a priest bless your home often.

@Erin D, there is a prayer that is just known as the St. Michael Prayer. It goes like this: St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell satan and all the evil spirits who prowl around the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen!

For everyone else. Don't just put holy water on your matress. It may keep the devil away from your body but not out of your home. Holy Water actually burns demons as fire does to us and so it is wise to sprinkle it at every entry into your home including vents and windows and chimneys as well as in general all over!

Father: Get Terry to leave town?!? That would be fun though! :-)

Good comments here. Thanks Jared for answering Erin's question!
