The Sign of Jonah

On Monday, March 9, 2009, President Obama is expected to sign legislation allowing embryonic stem cells to be used for medical research. Eight years ago, President Bush restricted the use of embryonic stem cells by denying the use of new lines.

Like many in the pro-life movement, I heard this news late Friday. I was so horrified that I did not know how to react. A headline in the press yesterday said this legislation "will breath new LIFE into medical research."

This is no time to be clever or make light of the horror that is upon us, though I'm sure the headline writer applauded himself for his creativity.

How long will it be before we see embryos created for the express purpose of being destroyed so they can be harvested for stem cells? How long will it be before these new embroyos are no longer discarded aborted embroyos or cryogenicically frozen embroyos in sperm banks but early-term fetuses in the womb that will be harvested maybe because the gender of the embroyo is not what the parent desires or it is determined that the embroyo has "issues"?

Earlier this week, Washington became the second state in our nation to enact a "death with dignity" law. Isn't that clever? Would you rather die with dignity or live with dignity? Define: dignity. Is dignity only defined by choice? Choice to kill. Kill yourself, kill your ailing parent, kill your patient, kill your child. This is dignity? Sounds like murder to me.

We are surrounded by death. We are a culture of death peddlers. Death enablers. We managed to isolate DNA. We can grow babies. We think we are gods-not gardeners.

We are gardeners. God created and gave us this Garden to take care of and we are failing miserably. We are not caring for much of anything or anyone. We certainly are destroying it well. We don't tend, we bulldoze.

How many times has God looked down and thought about smiting us? How many times have we been spared? How many times has God shown mercy upon us who don't deserve it because of the penance and fervant prayers of a few? Perhaps our brothers and sisters in religious orders, engaged in continual prayer on our behalf, have done us more of a favor than we may ever know?

The people of Ninevah took seriously the shouts of the prophet Jonah: "40 days and Ninevah will be overthrown!" We are in 40 days of Lent right now. Coincidence? The people of Ninevah did penance, fasted and repented; from the King on down to the cattle in the field. God spared them.

Pray that this continual assault on life is the Sign. With all this extreme disrespect for life, will more pro-"choice" and pro-death people FINALLY realize things have gone too far and repent and turn away and start advocating for life?

If we don't repent we will be destroyed.

Tomorrow, I'm going to fast, do penance, and pray to the Lord tomorrow in reparation for this horror and to beg, yes beg, for His mercy.

May God have mercy on us all.

Cross posted to Our Word and Welcome to It!

Better pray for CT, too...what the legislature there is doing is absolutely criminal.

And if that law passes there, it will set a precedent that will leak over here to MN and we'll be underground like China

I will join you in prayer. I watched ABC news at 5 and a man in a wheel chair, accompanied by his parents, were filmed as they prepare to be with the president tomorrow. They were elated because they claim he will be able to walk again because embyonic stem cell research/therapy.

It is unbelievably evil.

Obama will go down in history as the "death-President." He brings death into all areas of life--from conception to old age--satan's friend.

Tomorrow, I will join you in fasting, penance and prayer "in reparation for this horror and to beg, yes beg, for His mercy."

Adoro: Yes.

Tara and Adrienne: Praised Be Jesus Christ! Strength in numbers!

Terry: I feel sorry for him, not because of his condition, but because he has no idea of the kind of evil unleashed around him. He doesn't realize he could be a euthanasia target down the road. Really. I think that's what it's coming to.

Is Obama doing the right thing by lifting the ban on federal funding on embryonic stem cell research? Do you feel it seriously affects the human race? Should the government not concentrate on removing the ill effects of unemployment? Share your views with us at

I can hardly imagine how angry God must be with this world, and our country in particular. I will join you in prayer.

Interestingly enough I noted in a post today on that Canadians made a breakthrough in regard to stem-cells that could "bypass the eithical problems of using embryonic stem cells." This is not new news. Unsuprisingly leaders in each of our countries down play this and continue to go on and on about the need for the latter.

We knew it would be like this and still the majority of Catholics as well as their bishops voted this man and others into office.

The killing culture is getting more entrenched by the week.

It's not hard to see where this will lead (you mentioned it too)-

More women will be coerced into abortions by being told the "tissue will go for a good cause" or something absurd like that. It will be like donating hair to Locks of Love- feel like you're helping someone out.

It's terrifying.

Yes, but let's save the whales and the 'mother' earth! It is truly a frightening, backwards time.

I removed the post I refer to above. Sorry if I sent you looking for nothing. I realized late that better than anything I could have or did say would have been simply to have prayed and done some act of penance.

I like what you said about us being gardeners, not gods. True, the very thing that attracted old Adam and Eve was the lie that they would be as gods if they disobeyed God. We never learn.

...and on Obama....does anybody else see all his very first acts in office as a sort of payment to Baal? It seems like he made a pact with the devil, doesn't it? "If I am elected the first black American president, I promise the first things I do in office will be to repay the favor in unprecedented amounts of innocent human blood."

Nahhh...I guess I'm just watching too many horror movies. *cough*

Hi Cathy!

Follow this link to see another form of this horror

Why bother with stem cells and all that cloning business when you can simply harvest the organs of babies who've been killed just prior to birth?

I wonder if instead of praying to delay our well deserved chastisement if we should pray for it to come. I can barely see for the darkness anymore...

My 'puter is sick, so I read this late to join you on tuesday, but Bravo!

The Prayer group that the Queen of the house attends are worried--atarting with the words of Our Lady of Akitia through things that other people are getting (charismatics have this thing they call "recieving a word") they are all stoking up.

I just know that between the death worship, perversion and promiscuity wprship, and movement towards persecution of the Church, things are not going to continue as they have, and things will be bad.

This President has shown his love of everything that promotes death.

The Sanctity of Human Life Day has now been replaced with glorification of all forms of death. The type of "stem cell research" he is promoting is proven failure, and has been very dangerous, considering how it has made one crippled person far worse.

Why do we not hear about it being a massive failure? Or has the Obama Worship been this far that truth not be told?
