Can We Talk?

My latest post is up on Our Word and Welcome to It! I told Mitchell I would do one post/week for that blog while he's on hiatus. I'm sure this is one of his tricks but he's tough to say 'no' too!

Looking for some history. Must have been about 1968. There was a group, who left the Shrine of the Little Flower to form what was essentially an apostate hippie "church." I seem to recall it was called "The Community." The fallen priest's name was something like Fr. Liaget. Tried to Google it and found nothing. Anyone know more? Cannot find anything about it on the web. Yes, I was a kidlet in tow of wannabe hippie parents, to that apostate "church." The reason for the schism? They were angry that the SotLF used monies for flowers and other internal decor rather than contributing to self immolating rioters in Detroit. Typical late 1960s.

Anther thing I thought of. I suspect one of the reasons why some of the SotLF people left the Church was due to being hypersensitized by that incident in 1965 where that lady went down to Selma from Detroit then was murdered by the KKK. There was an issue when she was given a de facto "state funeral" in a big church in Detroit - even though she was apparently fallen. Some people objected to that, and I am guessing that the so called "conservative" faction at the Shrine were among them. And of course, in retort, the radical faction, who were caught up in Civil Rights and anti Vietnam War protests, might have started talking themselves into "doing something." By 1968, they did - they walked out. At least, that's one theory. Again, anyone who has recall of this (or know someone with recall) - please let me know.
