Nameless Fear

Bloggers: Be on your guard. Especially, the local bloggers of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. As we approach the Annual Tramping of the Colors by the International Lodge of the Individual Magisteriums at the Cathedral at Pentecost and the changing of our diocesan leadership, I have a feeling that blog attacks are about to be ramped up. I've noticed an increase in "anonymous" bloggers commenting on other blogs as well as mine. Some of them have names, initials or handles that I recognize from my dissident days. Many of these people to watch out for just registered for blog IDs (IDs only-no blog-no other info) within the last 30 days.

Just exactly what are these "anony-mouse" people going to do?? I guess I'm asking what form these attacks are going to take.

They should just, "get a life." Perhaps start their own blogs--can you imagine having nothing better to do?--sheesh!

They're just flies...just swish them away and they'll become mired in their own crap eventually.

adrienne: Posting the dissident viewpoint and starting a fight on your blog is what I would expect.

tara: Right! Just like me: nothing better to do! LOL! Ok, I know what you meant.

adoro: Ewwww...feisty! That sounds like something I'd say! ROFL!

I give this advice and hope I can take it myself:

DO NOT feed the trolls, as they say.

Do not engage in fights. You KNOW you are correct if you share the Church's view. You KNOW they are wrong if they do not. But they are entitled to their wrong opinion, and most of us were dissidents once, too.

When things like this happen (I've never had someone truly nasty, but I've had people who share opposing viewpoints with whom I had a combox spat) I offer them my e-mail address.
I find that most people are MUCH more polite and receptive to a calm discussion when it's "just between the two of you."

For some reason, it's like shooting a bird at the car that cuts you off.
You wouldn't yell "FU" to a person who cut in front of you at the bank, but people think nothing of doing it to people in cars or comboxes.
I have met some very, very nice "online friends" this way - one, just yesterday. We fought in a combox but after I offered him my email, he contacted me, and now I understand his point, he understands mine, and lo and behold, it turns out we feel exactly the same, we just express ourselves differently.
He seems very kind and we had a good laugh about getting off on the wrong foot.

Cathy - I never say anything interesting enough to warrent getting attacked. Sigh.... Although I expected them on my AA posts. There are some really rabid anti-AA cranks out there.

Father Longendecker attracks cranks like crazy. It is really disturbing.

It is indeed going to be an active Summer.

The Republican National Convention will be held in the Twin Cities (meetings in St Paul) over Labor Day Weekend.

Protesters have already informed the cities of St Paul and Minneapolis that they need parade permits for 50,000 demonstrators who will be drooling with hatred.

Many of the demonstrators will be self-styled anarchists who can be depended upon to show up for any fight.

Many of those demonstrators will have the Summer off from school and will get here early to rehearse their plans. And when they get tired of bashing Republicans, they will quite naturally turn to the Catholic Church and our new Archbishop John Nienstedt will take over from retiring Archbishop Harry Flynn on May 2nd or so. They have decided that Archbishop Nienstedt will be extremely conservative and his policies will be considered an afront, even if they haven't read or heard them.

Pentecost Sunday this year is on May 11. Expect a crowd at the Cathedral larger than the two puny turnouts of the past couple of years.

Meanwhile, if Councilmen Dave Thune can be believed :-( the Republicans will all be vomiting on the sidewalk. Between the protesters drooling and the conventioneers vomit, I think we need more money for street and sidewalk clean-up. I think I'll call the Mayor and ask him to assign more money to that.

"puny turnout"-they could have 1,000 people show up and it will be, an ineffectual turnout. The Archbishop does not have the authority (Thanks Be to God) to overturn Christ's teachings on the basis of "feelings" or personal opinions.
