Get Psyched for the Pope's Visit!

Mr. Tim Drake, Senior Writer, of the National Catholic Register -local writer (there is SO much Catholic talent around here!) informs me that the Register has started a website for the Holy Father's visit (April 15-20th) to the United States. The page is evolving. The plan is that Tim will blog during the Pope's visits, providing up to the minute information. I know you all like to read blogs and materials about the Holy Father, so help a good man and a good, authentically Catholic, paper out, ok?

UPDATE: D'oh! I forgot to post the link to the website! I corrected my dum-dum. Sorry!

Having no hair, I don't use hot rollers.

But it looks to me that Tim Drake, who is as good or better a writter than John Allen of the NCReporter, is being supported by the NCRegister to go after Allen's considerable number of fans.

If the Reporter lost Allen's fans, they would lose a considerable number of their subscriptions also. He's the only orthodox writer that the Reporter has on staff.

That would be a huge win for Orthodoxy!

I think Mr. Allen has fans because he's a fine writer. Really, you can't tell how orthodox he really is. For all I know, he's not even Catholic. His genius is that he presents the story, in well-written detail, without his personal spin. He takes himself almost entirely out of it.

A rarity these days. Truly.

The NC"Distorter" readers are reading that rag for reasons that have little to do with Mr. Allen. They read it for the "progressivism" in its pages. I used to read it back in my dissident heyday: America and Commonweal too. Hey, I even think I threw in Ms., Mother Jones and Utne Reader! Prog nation!!! Yippeee!!!!

Lady Cathy sure does have a handle on a goodly number of the dissident mags available to the peace and tranquility set.

And it may indeed be that John Allen has not been brought into the fold. One doesn't see smudges on his forehead in the Ash Wednesday edition. And most of his columns are "organizational studies" in nature, not thoughtful analyses of Aquinas, The Little Flower and More.
