Pioneer Press Blog on Handmaid's Tale at UST

Mr. Paul Tosto, Higher Education Reporter, of the Pioneer Press told me that the education reporters at the PP, have started a blog. One of the entries is about The Handmaid's Tale at the University of St. Thomas. Read it here

Why should these images even be put in our children's minds? Once they are there, they are very hard to forget. Too bad he didn't close with Fr. Z's comments. There is enough garbage out there, without intentionally placing this junk in front of our children. And paying a Catholic university to do it!

By the time a person gets to college they should no longer be considered "children." I read the Handmaid's Tale, and I think it fulfills the requirements for this course.

I would be alot more concerned about what the "children" are seeing on the internet.

Thanks, Cathy.

I think I'm going to have to start reading more carefully the TC Media blogs.

K. Kersten gave me the clue on the UST changes this a.m. But I used the UST Bulletin as my source. But Kersten is always worth reading. I'll have to check the commenters on her post and see what they have to say.

Terry says Father Z has posted on the UST situation. I haven't got that far in my daily surfing yet.

...however, I will agree that much better books could be chosen.

What has happened to Derham Hall (my Alma Mater), Cretin, and St. Thomas since I was a student (back in the horse and buggy days) is criminal.

Here's Father Z's post from October 13:

Univ. of St. Thomas requires freshmen to read Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale”

And here's another post about UST from today:

Univ. of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN … Catholic school? You decide.
