One Year Blog Anniversary!

Thousands Confused!
Hundreds Angered!
Hordes Unamused!

As an exercise in personal humility and mortification, I thought I would share with you, Gentle Reader, some of my, er, fan mail excerpts from the last year.

"May you relapse into your Catholic dissent."
"You have brought God down to your level by making Him as petty as you are."
"If you can't take the art, get out of the creative space."
"Puh-leez stop the sanctimony."
"The only thing I like on your blog is the image of St. Catherine on it."
"You are overly smug."
"You are a victim of a superstitious cult. You need to break free."
"You Catholics are incapable of thinking for yourselves. Your blog proves it."
"Traitor!"
"I liked you when you were still cool. I hate you now."

Hey, keep those cards and letters coming!

Jeepers, I never get fan mail like that. Thank's for the shoutout on our second schola appearance. We'll probably be five tomorrow, so my false notes will be less noticeable.

Once upon a time, when I was still working in the same building where the Cong. for the Doctrine of the Faith is, the Palazzo del Sant'Uffizio, it was not uncommon to run into Card. Ratzinger. He was always ready to chat for a while and allow me to pick his brains. One day there was a terrible article about him in one of the Italian papers. I asked him about it, adding, "How do you take, year in and year out, the constant unjust criticism?"

He responded: "If I didn't read an article like that at least once a week, I would have to examine my conscience!"

PS: You oughta see my mail! o{];¬)

Father: Maybe one day we should have a local Blognik with "open mic" where we all read aloud our "greatest hits"!?

You make a good point. I'm sure there are few Catholics who take as much, or as virulent, criticism as the Holy Father.

I should mention to everyone that printed in this post are criticisms that I CAN reprint. Some of it's really laced with profanity.

Happy Blogging Anniversary, dear Cathy!!

And about the "fan" mail, the way I see it, criticisms from the worldly types means you're doing SOMETHING right. At least it's hitting a nerve -- and the "pain" of it may actually lead them to question *why* it hurts so much...and maybe, just maybe, it may even stay with them until they actually search out the truth for themselves.

Keep it up!

Happy Anniversary. None of these criticisms suit you. And you are still cool and I love you - that undoes the last nasty comment!

I have been reading your blog for your comments on the new best seller, Love Letters to Pope John Paul II.

I think you might find it controversial
