Have You Called Your Mother Today?

Angela must be reading my mind! Those Canadians-never underestimate their ability to get into your head. Of course, it's all about ME. LOL!

Last night, I was praying before an image of the Blessed Virgin and telling her, yet again, how I'm sorry that I don't spend enough time with her. Then, this morning, I read Angela's post. Amazing!

Go on over and read Angela's post for yourself!

I don't call her like I should. I just posted this on Angela's blog:

I used to be one of those who thought "Why go to His mom when you can go straight to Jesus?"

It took me a long time, but slowly I learned how important the Blessed Mother is to humanity.

If you think about it, for the last 800 years or more, the Blessed Mother, Jesus' Mom, the most perfect human being ever created, has been the principal visible heavenly communicator between Jesus, the Word of God, and humanity, mostly in the persons of the most poor and humble.

Beginning with St Dominic and the Rosary in 1208 (or thereabouts), the scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel given to St Simon Stock in 1251, the appearance of Our Lady of Guadalupe in 1531, the defeat of the Islamic Mediterranean fleet through the use of the Rosary in 1571, the Miraculous Medal given to St Catherine Laboure in 1831, Our Lady of La Sallette apparition in 1846, Our Lady of Lourdes 1858, Our Lady of Knock, Ireland, 1879, Our Lady of Fatima, 1917, and Medjugorje and many other apparitions and events.

I think Our Lord is trying to tell us that we should be paying attention to His mom. And of course, her most famous instruction came at Cana: "Do whatever He tells you."

I try, but I do tend to get involved in the "busyness" of life and I regularly forget to acknowledge our Blessed Mother.

But it has surprised me when I realized the other day that in the past six months I have begun to wear the Miraculous Medal, and just last week, for the first time since I was a boy, the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

I need the support, and they keep me from forgetting her and her Son.
