Lest We Forget....

Today, survivors of the Pearl Harbor attack on December 7, 1941 will meet at the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial in Hawaii. They say it will be their last get-together.

Thank you, veterans.

I don't believe that I have ever seen that photo before. As a vet, but not of any war, thank you for reminding us all of how much we owe our WWII vets.

I've never thought much about the Pearl Harbor attack, probably because I was a "draft dodger baby." My Mom was pregnant with me on Dec 7, 1941 and my Dad had a very high draft board number.

So they told him to quit his job at a Restaurant Supply company and get a job in a defense industry. So he became a boilermaker in a shipyard in Duluth building small vessels for the Navy and Coast Guard.

Then when his number came up again in 1944, he was already age 34, my Mom was pregnant again and they told him that the War was almost over so they wouldn't draft him.

My Dad's brother did serve, but he moved to California when he got out so I never heard "war stories" from him and my Mom's only brother died in a car accident before WWII.

Ray: Based upon that story I would not say that you are a "draft dodger baby" in the sense that your Dad deliberately dodged the draft. It's not like he fled to Canada.

Whether you saw combat or not, you are a veteran and a hero in my eyes because you served. Thank you, Ray.
